Tech Centered Career Day

As you continue to prepare your students for future success, it is critical that you provide the opportunity for students to learn and apply digital skills.

The World Economic Forum states that “The Fourth Industrial Revolution, which includes developments in previously disjointed fields such as artificial intelligence and machine-learning, robotics, nanotechnology, 3-D printing, and genetics and biotechnology, will cause widespread disruption not only to business models but also to labour markets over the next five years, with enormous change predicted in the skill sets needed to thrive in the new landscape.”

It also estimates that “65% of children entering primary school today will ultimately end up in completely new job types that don’t yet exist.” With these types of changes coming to the job market, it becomes quite clear that we need to anticipate and prepare our students with career skills that will require an understanding of technology as it will be critical in whatever path they choose.

Hosting a tech centered career day is one way to introduce students to a variety of different career choices and helps them realize that no matter what field they choose – technology is part of it. It also gets students excited about their future and helps them understand that the digital skills they are learning today will prepare them for their future.

This course provides an example of how to use a Learning.com Project, Dream Career, as the basic foundation for a career day. On the Going Beyond page of this course, we offer a list of additional projects to help you differentiate the experience and meet your students where they are.
