New Jersey School Introduces Computational Thinking and Coding into Instruction

Kofi Owens, Technology teacher at East Orange School District, saw a need for coding instruction with his sixth-grade students but found that free resources alone did not provide students with enough real-world application to help them fully understand the concepts and vocabulary needed to be successful.

He implemented Learning.com’s Computational Thinking lessons and unplugged activities as well as EasyCode which teaches students to code in a real coding language through a game-based environment.

“It was the real-world aspect that really made the difference. Every time the kids completed an activity in EasyCode, they had to do an outside activity related to what they just learned and it brought everything home for them.”
