Making the Most of Your Summer
Many educators, myself included, look forward to summer to improve our craft and learn new practices through relevant professional development opportunities. For administrators, digital coaches, and trainers, it is imperative to support and encourage teachers in their lifelong learning journey. Professional learning is an ongoing process that provides current educators with the knowledge, skills and classroom strategies to transform teaching and learning. Continuous professional learning is essential for all educators , if we want our students to be lifelong learners, we should be too. As a former classroom teacher, I looked for training that was timely, digestible, purposeful, enjoyable, repeatable, relevant, and impactful!
I still remember not having much time on my hands, especially being a working mom. Between lesson planning, getting ready for the next day, working odd hours to get everything done, getting time in for quality PD was often challenging. Whether it is a workshop, a conference, or a meeting, I advise educators to take part in some form of professional development to set themselves up for success.
Other forms of PD examples include:
- Flipped PD
- Badging
- Lunch & Learns
- Conferences
- Blended PD
- Online PD and Webinars
- Self-Directed
- Edcamps
- Academies
