Portland, Ore. – To give Oregon educators a night off from teaching, Portland-based education technology company, Learning.com, partnered with Comcast to offer an evening of discovery and learning at an open house dedicated just to them at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI).

Teachers who attend the event will experience OMSI’s featured exhibit, POMPEII: The Exhibition, which explores the splendor of ancient Rome through a 4D theater experience and nearly 200 artifacts including frescoes, mosaics and precious items belonging to the residents of Pompeii. They will also have the opportunity to interact with OMSI educators and get assistance with planning opportunities for their students to connect with the museum and its resources during the 2017-2018 school year.

“Teachers are unsung heroes and this open house is our way of providing them with a fun – and educational – ‘night off,’ as well as a chance to interact with their peers to draw inspiration for their own teaching against the backdrop of one of the nation’s most renowned science centers,” said Learning.com CEO Keith Oelrich. “In order to prepare our students for success in school, college and their future careers, it is vital we give our teachers the tools and support they need for success – as well as the chance to have some fun together.”

Educators can also tour Learning.com’s digital curriculum via 12 work stations focused on its “12 Essential Digital Literacy Skills.” Each workstation will feature one skill, which include computer fundamentals, online safety and digital citizenship, keyboarding, visual mapping, multimedia, Internet usage and online communication, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, computational thinking and coding. Teachers in attendance at the event will receive free access to these lessons on the Learning.com platform that they can take back to their school. In addition, they can enter a drawing for the chance to win a free one-year subscription to Learning.com’s EasyTech curriculum for their entire school.

“The Teacher Open House is at the heart of our mission, which is to stimulate the exchange of ideas and foster collaboration with our thriving community,” said Keith Baich, director of Guest Services and Sales at OMSI. “We are excited to work with Learning.com to offer Oregon educators this unique and engaging opportunity, which will allow us to showcase the fun and innovative spirit of OMSI and highlight how our resources can benefit teachers and students and ignite learning in new and exhilarating ways.”

The 2017 Teacher Open House is open to all in-service, pre-service and homeschool teachers. Pre-registration is required and a valid school-issued ID or business card or pay stub, or confirmation of intent to homeschool is mandatory for entry.
