Learning.com's TechLiteracy Assessment Wins Prestigious SIIA Codie AwardAssessment provides school districts with data on students' technology literacy PORTLAND, OREGON (April 17, 2007) — Learning.com's TechLiteracy Assessment has won a prestigious Codie Award, presented by the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) April 17 at its annual awards banquet in San Francisco. The Web-delivered assessment measures and reports students' technology skills and provides data to support improved student learning outcomes. TechLiteracy Assessment was awarded "Best Instruction Solution in Other Curriculum Areas," in the SIIA's annual competition to identify the leaders and innovators in education technology industries. TechLiteracy Assessment provides a district-wide solution for measuring technology proficiency for elementary and middle school students. It meets the needs of administrators and teachers who seek data to help them understand how well students grasp foundational technology skills. "Learning.com created TechLiteracy Assessment specifically to answer the need educators have to get a clear and accurate picture of students' technology skills and knowledge," says Bill Kelly, CEO and founder of Learning.com. "We are pleased the industry recognizes how well this solution meets that need." Learning.com, the premier provider of Web-enhanced solutions for educators, introduced TechLiteracy Assessment in 2006. The test can be given in just one class period, and provides reports to help teachers understand whether they need to teach a technology skill before using it in a lesson, or whether students are ready to take on more challenging tasks. Teachers can understand, for example, whether students can successfully use spreadsheets to create a pie chart for a fractions lesson. Administrators get data to help them meet federal and state accountability requirements, pinpoint district and school technology challenges that need addressing, and better understand teaching strategies that support technology skill development. Judges for the Codie awards included both journalists and peer companies. This year's competition was particularly competitive with the highest number of entries in the history of the Codies. Learning.com also won a 2002 Codie award for its EasyTech solution which provides educators with a proven, Web-delivered K-8 technology literacy curriculum that helps students develop and apply their technology skills to math, language arts, social studies and science lessons.
