Statistical Insights

Some of the data that Dr. Fletcher elaborates on during his presentation include the following:

  • 24% of superintendents surveyed say they have some form of 1:1 initiative.
  • 3000 new books are published daily in the U.S. and most will be available electronically.
  • The ratio of students to computers is 3.8 to 1 — a number that has remained flat since 2004.
  • 84% of employers say K-12 schools not preparing students for work place.
  • In 2005, a person with a bachelor’s degree will earn at least 50% more than a high school graduate.

Dr. Geoffrey H. Fletcher is Editorial Director for T.H.E. Journal with responsibility for all content related to T.H.E. Journal and its web site and e-newsletters. He also serves as Editor for Special Projects for Campus Technology and Executive Director of T.H.E. Institute.

Dr. Geoff FletcherPrior to joining T.H.E., Dr. Fletcher was Assistant Commissioner at the Texas Education Agency (TEA) with responsibility for curriculum, assessment, technology, textbooks and professional development. He was with the TEA for 11 years serving in various positions, all related to instructional technology. For over two years he also had responsibility for TEA’s information system, including the Public Education Information Management System. Dr. Fletcher also has served as the Executive Director of the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA).

Dr. Fletcher holds a Bachelor of Arts from Miami University in English, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Miami University in English, and an ED.D in education from the University of Cincinnati with an emphasis on futures study, gifted education, and curriculum.
