Foundational Skills for Middle School Students

Aha!Math Foundations for Middle School provides teachers with an effective, Web-delivered supplemental math resource for middle school students who need review or who are working below grade level. Aha!Math engages and motivates students to review and relearn critical foundational concepts to be successful with middle school curriculum. The interactive, animated content in Aha!Math makes math come alive through Instruction Modules, Lessons, Games, Activities, Journals, and Quizzes. It engages them in learning and practicing, tying new concepts to earlier concepts, and modeling the connection between concrete math models and symbolic math representations.

Flexible and teacher-directed
Teachers are fully in charge of when and how they use Aha!Math, whether it’s for whole class instruction or for differentiated learning, in small groups or for individual students. Teachers can preview all content and sequence material any way necessary to meet their students’ needs. Teachers can also easily and quickly integrate their own proven lessons, providing unlimited opportunities to individualize instruction.

Research-based
Aha!Math incorporates current research into how students learn with Web-delivered content to create the most effective learning experiences for a diverse range of students. Timely, positive and corrective feedback, and constructive interactivity motivate students to engage in math. They grasp the how and why of what they are learning so they can apply that learning in a variety of contexts, including high-stakes tests.

Reteaching key concepts
Students who are below grade level benefit from Aha!Math’s digital delivery, which enables them to hear instruction on a concept multiple times, and in a completely consistent manner. Digital coaches give students emotionally consistent instruction and feedback, whether it’s repeating instruction, correcting their responses, or rewarding a correct answer. Aha!Math also gives students the opportunity to revisit the instructional content and to hear the instruction with no variations in presentation.

Journaling provides insight
Aha!Math’s unique online journaling enables teachers to create math literacy exercises, and gives them a simple way to present new word problems, enabling students to explain their application of math concepts. Through journaling, students develop fluency with academic vocabulary, and teachers get insight into students’ learning.

Anywhere, anytime access
Because Aha!Math is Web-delivered, students enjoy its lessons and games anywhere they have a computer and Internet connection, reinforcing classroom learning, and supporting both low- and high-performing students in computer labs, and in extended-day and summer school programs. Students can also log in at home, building the home-to-school connection.
