Staff Software Engineer

Designs, modifies, and develops software applications. As a member of a team, Staff Software Engineers are expected to keep the team’s goals in mind and continually seek ways to help further those goals. This may include, but is not limited to, accurately estimating work, keeping an eye on risk mitigation, staying on top of technology trends, clearly communicating progress, and helping with quality assurance.

Staff Software Engineers must be familiar with the standard concepts, practices, and procedures within software engineering generally, with special attention to the specific area of software engineering in which they currently work. They apply this understanding, along with their experience and judgment, to plan and accomplish their individual tasks. In addition, Staff Software Engineers are expected to act as a technology evangelist, promoting the acquisition of new skills and the use of new technologies to better meet the needs of our customers; may frequently be required to provide support to other engineers, direct their work, and review their solutions; and, are expected to provide leadership on architectural decisions, advocating for initiatives that make our applications more scalable, maintainable, and extensible.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for estimating their work.
  • Plan and accomplish programming projects with extensive scope and complexity.
  • Regularly communicate progress.
  • Actively pursue professional development through books, blogs, participating in user groups, attending conferences, taking classes, etc.
  • Participate in quality assurance.
  • Promote acquisition of new skills and adoption of new technologies.
  • Support to other engineers, direct their work, and review their solutions.
  • Provide leadership on architectural directions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 6 to 8+ years minimum software engineering experience in a company that delivers web-based services or software products.
  • A breadth of experience with a variety of technologies and applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve a variety of technical problems.
  • Proven teamwork skills to help deliver quality software on schedule.
  • In-depth understanding of Visual Studio, C#, ASP.NET, and SQL Server.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, design and communication skills.
  • BS in Computer Science or related field.

Physical Demands
Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
