Position Summary
The Database Administrator ensures all database systems are functional and operating at peak efficiency with high system availability, protecting the security and integrity of the company’s databases and systems. Working for the premier provider of web-delivered curriculum and assessment, this is an opportunity to make a real impact on the learning outcomes of nearly 2 million students using our products to learn about technology, math and science.
Responsibilities
Proactively monitor production SQL Server databases, warehouses and data marts
Identify and resolve database performance and maintenance issues
Provide 24/7 support to ensure high availability for all production database systems
Leverage hosted DBA support for production systems as needed
Automate the database release process and other common tasks to improve operational efficiencies
Audit and manage database security
Develop and implement archival strategy for production data
Recommend hardware for future capacity planning of production and development environments
Evaluate database-related tools and vendors and advocate for their integration into our environment when appropriate
5+ years of hands-on DBA and production support experience
Strong administration experience with SQL Server 2005/2008 databases
Solid skills with Transact-SQL, database/database server optimization, backup/recovery, security architecture, replication/log shipping, indexing
Proficiency with SQL tools such as Profiler, DTA, SQLCMD, SSIS, SSMS and BIDS
SQL clustering experience is a plus
Experience managing database objects in source control and using schema management tools such as RedGate, DBGhost, etc
Excellent analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
