Aha!Science by Learning.com earns prestigious Award of Excellence from Tech & Learning Magazine

Whiteboard Edition gives teachers online science instruction and games ideal for whole class engagement

Portland, OR – Nov. 19, 2009
Aha!Science by Learning.com has won the prestigious Tech & Learning Award of Excellence for its Whiteboard Edition. For 27 years, this Award has recognized the best in educational software, hardware, network and Web products. The magazine will feature the winners, chosen from more than 100 entries, in its December issue.

“Our judges, who include the staff of Philadelphia’s Science Leadership Academy, put dozens of entries through their paces. To come out with their seal of approval is a testament to the product,” says Kevin Hogan, Editorial Director for NewBay Media’s Tech & Learning Group.

Aha!Science is a supplemental online curriculum for grades 3-5, and a resource for middle school science foundational learning. It offers teachers a digital resource to engage and motivate students with science, and to build the foundation for success in later years. The whiteboard edition gives teachers a ready-to-use tool to:

* immediately put to use dynamic curriculum with their interactive whiteboards,

* improve participation and student engagement through a combination of interactive games and instruction modules,

* teach with technology – the way students expect to learn.

The Aha!Science Whiteboard Edition provides schools with building-wide, unlimited teacher use, and teacher training to ensure successful implementation. Teachers find Aha!Science simple to use with their whiteboards or projector systems, and students respond and participate with the dynamic visual explanation of concepts. With broad instruction and exploration of Physical, Earth and Space, and Life sciences, Aha!Science provides teachers with engaging science instruction, games and quizzes that all work well in whole-class settings.

Aha!Science, paired with an interactive whiteboard, frees teachers to continuously monitor their students for understanding. While Aha!Science’s digital teacher provides instruction, classroom teachers can pause and restart the action to engage students, direct discussion, ask questions to build students’ skills in conceptual thinking and the scientific process, and assess minute-by-minute how well students are grasping what they are learning.

Aha!Science also provides schools with an effective professional development tool in science. Too often, elementary teachers say they feel unprepared to teach science or to include it in their classroom plans. Aha!Science addresses the need for instructional support by providing multiple models of instruction along with an extensive array of curriculum and science games. Mentor teachers can also use Aha!Science with an interactive whiteboard to provide science instruction training.
